Job Description
To provide a planned and negotiated educational psychology consultation and assessment service to a Crisis & Intervention Support Team (CIST) as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-perspective intervention service that will include direct work with young people and their families.
To work with family therapists, social workers, assistant social workers, a youth worker, a clinical psychologist, teachers, parents/carers and other professionals both within and outside the Education Department, in trying to bring about positive change and in raising the attainments of children for whom concern has been expressed and who may be at risk of exclusion.
To work with young people and their families where there is a risk of family breakdown and to provide an ‘early intervention service’ which may prevent some children being Looked After.
Responsible to the Head of Educational Psychology and the Crisis Intervention & Support Team Manager.
The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Head of Service (Principal EP) and will retain professional links and supervision through the Educational Psychology Service. The Crisis Intervention & Support Team Manager will have day to day management responsibilities for the Educational Psychologist.
To undertake regular visits to schools, either alone or with other members of the CIST, to offer through consultation, assessment and advice ways of meeting the needs of individually referred children and young people through early intervention.
To undertake regular visits to nurseries and schools, either alone or with other members of the CIST, to offer through consultation and advice ways of implementing whole school systems with regard to supporting the identified needs of individual or groups of children and young people.
To visit children and young people and their families in other settings including their homes, either alone or with other members of the CIST, to offer through consultation, assessment and advice ways of meeting the needs of individually referred children and young people.
To work with other members of the CIST to co-ordinate and plan the most appropriate intervention for referred children and young people, with clear timescales, including review of the plans on a quarterly basis or earlier if needed.
To deliver evidence-based models of intervention, at the individual child, group and whole-school (systems) level, that take account of Local Authority’s diverse community and that might include, systemic family therapy, solution focused brief therapy, family group conferencing, cognitive behaviour management therapy, parenting programmes and counselling.
To participate in the review and development of all team processes.
To manage a caseload in negotiation with the Crisis Intervention & Support Team Manager.
To maintain accurate records on all aspects of EP service delivery for the Educational Psychology Service and for the Crisis Intervention & Support Team.
To work in partnership with other professionals both within and outside the Crisis Intervention & Support Team.
To initiate and maintain short and medium term projects identified by the Crisis Intervention & Support Team and/or Local Authority; especially in terms of evaluating outcomes for referred children and young people and developing and evaluating success criteria for the Family Support Team.
To attend and contribute to regular Crisis Intervention & Support Team and Educational Psychology Service meetings.
To contribute to service and team development sessions.
To undertake professional development and keep a personal record.
To undertake Performance Development Reviews at least twice a year.
